Pegasos is a Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) association based in Basel, Switzerland.

Our Story

In May 2018, the core team at Pegasos were involved in the landmark death of 104-year old Australian ecologist, Professor David Goodall.

Professor Goodall was not sick, but his quality of life was failing. He simply said he had had enough and now was the time to go.

The death of Professor Goodall raised the following important issues for the right to die movement in general, and inspired the creation of Pegasos in August 2019.

  1. A person’s desire for a dignified and peaceful assisted death is not solely dependent on terminal illness. Old age and a failing quality of life can also play a role.
  2. Swiss law on assisted suicide is well placed to serve the needs of people who may not fit the traditional criteria used in other places in the world where assisted suicide is legal.

Our Mission

The ability to choose a gentle end of life is a human right that should be made truly accessible to all rational adults of sound mind. That is why we, at Pegasos, strive to make the process as clear as possible for those who have made this important personal choice.

Pegasos offers peaceful, dignified and caring assisted death to approved adults of sound mind who apply for Voluntary Assisted Dying, regardless of their country of origin/ residence.

Often, just knowing we have this option when things get
really bad, is enough to reduce or even erase any fears of endless suffering, while giving us a sense of control. This, in turn, can improve quality of life and actually help us carry on
a bit longer.
